Questions
The questions that come up most often, answered the way we would answer them on the phone — including the ones where the honest answer is “it depends”.
01
Getting started
What happens between your first message and work beginning.
You will hear back from a practitioner, not a coordinator, within one working day. The first conversation is about understanding what exists today — your filings, your records, and whatever is currently worrying you. There is no charge for it and no obligation at the end.
02
Fees & engagement
How the cost is set, and what you agree to.
Scope first, then a fixed fee agreed in writing before any engagement letter exists. Recurring work is quoted per period so the cost is predictable. One-off matters are quoted as a single figure. We do not start an hourly meter and send you the total afterwards.
03
Switching firms
Moving work across without dropping anything.
Less than people expect. We ask for the prior year's filings and working papers, review what was actually done rather than assume it was right, and tell you plainly if something needs correcting before we build on it. Most of the effort falls on us, not on you.
04
Cross-border & US tax
Where more than one country has a claim.
Almost certainly yes. The United States taxes on citizenship, not residence, so the obligation to file generally follows you regardless of where you live. Foreign bank account reporting may apply as well. Our USA tax desk handles exactly this.
05
Notices & audits
When the authority makes contact.
Note the deadline on it, do not respond in a hurry, and send it to us. Most damage in these matters comes from a rushed reply that concedes something unnecessarily. There is almost always more room than the letter's tone suggests.
06
The tax calculator
What the number on this site does and does not mean.
Treat it as a guide, not a filing position. It applies the published slab rates to the single figure you enter. It knows nothing about your allowances, credits, exemptions, other income, or tax already withheld — all of which change the real answer.
Not covered here
Most real questions need specifics.
A page like this can only go so far — the useful answer usually depends on figures, dates and documents. Send those and you get a real answer instead of a general one.
We reply within one working day.
Bring the question that isn't on this page.
Those are usually the ones worth a conversation.
